Just write
Just write Just write written April 25th, 2021 The first is relatively easy just get thoughts on the page. I repeat to myself - no past - no future - no pressure - just write. Coming back can be more challenging to words that flow and stumble down one side and up the other. I reassure myself - it is ok - it will be ok - there is time - just write. Some poems seem so weighty I don't want to start them or work on them once started. I tell myself that one day will be the right day to work on that poem but for today - just write. Many days I want to make excuses. I say I just wrote yesterday, or I will write tomorrow, or I will read someone else's poems, but my work is my self and I find my self writing poems, so - just write. It doesn't have to be right - just write. |

I love books about books and poems about poems lol. I like dashes. I like symmetry. I don't rhyme, except at the end of this one I just had to. A bit too expected, but what the heck. I've commented about wanting to be a better poet and things like rhyme and meter. I will never write in a formal style (I expect), but I do want to make my poems a pleasant reading experience. Some lines just feel so nice when read aloud. I suspect that relates to meter, rhyme, and word choice. I want to keep improving at writing that flows, without focusing on mechanics too much. My poems are about what is on my mind, and there are always things on my mind. I hate writing prompts!

This flows quite well. The "just write" recurring line at the end of each stanza holds the entire poem together. I enjoyed this. Thank you. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

I admire your serious daring and fierce spirit. I think you adeptly describe the existential state of a writer. I view writing as much like stepping into a boxing ring... You train, strategize and visualize but when you get in the ring instinct takes over. Maybe writing differs in a certain capacity by way of the rewrite, but fundamentally there are similarities. I also have called the forum of the writer: the unstable stage, a place that could be raucous, elevating or levitating, moving around, or even crumbling beneath your feet like a bad dream. I know the rewrite is an accepted part of the methodology. For me, I somewhat limit myself on the rewrite. I like the wild and primal nature of the first production, which, it seems to me, is closest to the ineffable in some form. I think of the jaguar, which comes from a word that means "kills in one bound". I found commonality with this idea. When I write I am in the wilderness of ideas, I see my point of interest and I go into motion. I have also come to view writing as being like walking out on a cliff, putting on a ceremonial Eagle headdress and leaping into the sun. If you are courageous, which all writers are, you will not fall. (I know that is a lot of words on the subject). btw. I have some titles of writing books I will send you! I think you are a very talented writer and I admire your process and evolution. *. *. *

I would not say a poet is better because its poems has rhyme and meter. There was a time rhyme and meter were a requirement for a poem to be a poem, and still does if you want to write a classic poem like a sonet. Certainly, it requires to develop the musical skill to let your words fit the metric rules, but this does not mean you are a better poet. Poems had to flow, not necessarily with rythm and meter but bringing out your mind, your feelings, capturing how you see, how you feel the world, the people. Yours, does it. . . Thank you for your reply. That is interesting. Some pieces come out fully realized, while others may need modification. Maybe some pieces are the slab of marble, in which you see something, and work your way to that something. While other pieces are full blown gods and goddesses at the moment of conception... I was thinking about it... I used to write exclusively in notebooks, and any piece of paper I could find. This left me with a large pile of loose leaves. I went through this pile (written in HS and shortly thereafter) when I got this old Macintosh computer that couldn't access the internet and was used exclusively for word processing. That is how I learned how to type. At the time I drank a lot of vodka. And I spilled on the keyboard. The keyboard began typing erratically. I said "even my keyboard is drunk!" But typing or transcribing from the paper manuscripts was a totally different experience, seeing the alignments and what they would look like in book form. The interaction of this appearance with my perception and the tactile feel of typing whilst seeing the words in real time generated a perceptual phenomenon and contributed to my evolution, I think. (where I always would write a piece in one sitting, now I could see the piece in the shop window, adding a new level of completion.) I started posting on a writing forum from 2005-2007. It was a prolific window of creativity. I composed exclusively via computer. For me, this made me seek to "kill in one bound", on a more conscious level, as all the elements of a completed work of art were there before me. I think, at least for me, writing by hand might lend more to tinkering. Because there is less of an appearance of completion, and it is like drawing in the sand, you know. I sort of want to go back to notebooks. I have a stack that my mom bought me. I love notebooks. I have been doing the electronic for a while though. But maybe going back could be evolutionary. But then... Everything is evolutionary. *. *. *
