When your phone doesn't recognize you...

When your phone doesn't recognize you...

After about a hundred drops to the cement floor of my office, my phone had finally bid a final farewell last week.

I was in need of a new one.

Considering the fact that I have a phone at the bottom of Ocqueoc Falls, butter fingers in a cement floor office, and have left previous phones in snow banks, wood piles, and other peoples cars.....

Expensive phones are NOT for me.

So it surprised me when my new $99 special came with facial recognition.

Really??

The phone was on super-sale and I got it super cheap so I never expected such fanciness out of a simple piece of technology.

Or should I say.... Curse!

I was in my office trying to unlock the stupid thing to see who was texting me when I ended up locking myself OUT of my phone.

Yep, that's right!

The phone did not recognize my masked image and decided I was doing nefarious activity and locked me out.

Fantastic.

It can recognize me with and without my glasses... With my hair up or down.... With my eyes shut and sticking out my tongue....

But it doesn't recognize me with a mask.

Note to self: It was embarrassing when customer support recommended I remove my mask before future phone use while they were unlocking my phone. Don't let this happen again!!

Believe it or not, I dropped it in the parking lot at the park when I took my daughter to the lake tonight. Thought I was going to die!! But, it didn't break... Luck was on my side.

LOL. Now, Siri will give you the name of the person even. How many times I’ve gotten a new number only for Siri to pop up and go “found a new contact, add?”... like sir, you’re doing too much and being a creeper. It’s a hell of a thing.
Ha ha ha ha.... If I ever decide to start stalking, I know I need an iphone! The idea of smart, adaptive technology kind of creeps me out.

I'm the same, I treat my phones like I treat sunglasses, always either leave them behind, stand on them, or drop them over a cliff edge. And I got a new one last week too. It has facial recognition, but I didnae bother even trying that. I mean, how would it ever recognise my hangover face??
I used smart switch to transfer all the data from my old phone to my new phone... So I was just following all the screen prompts to set up my new phone. One of them was the facial recognition... I did figure out how to disable it this morning and just use the puzzle. (As I see this being a problem going forward, for me.)

I would have issues right now with a fingerprint thing.... It's not something on my phone, thank God. My hands are so dry I'm having problems with my biometric at work, even.

My phone is over a year and a half old, they usually last about 9 months. I'm dreading buying a new one and having to "learn" all over again.
Yah, I'm in that learning phase right now. Totally sucks. Totally.

    Good tip.
And the reason I'll never use THAT feature. 👍
I can also use the puzzle thing.... And I was trying to do just that. The phone kept scanning my face and my dry fingertips weren't picking up all the dots. Between hand washing and sanitizing at work.... I'm lucky I have skin on my hands.

I'm sure by now customer support for any cell service and any cell phone you can name has taken so many calls for the mask problem! And if you wear a mask very much, you're going to have it on and try to unlock your phone. It's just a question of 'when'...not 'if'. lol
The guy sounded slightly irritated the whole time. I'm certain you're right.... I was probably his 10th call in a row for that issue.

No. I find new technology allows me to enjoy feeling dumb and stupid without a human being having to interject this fact when dealing with these kind of devices. Electronics, computers, and I have a love/hate relationship. I will let y'all figure out which way that love / hate goes between them and me.
The older I get, the less I like electronics, myself. I'm just looking for something easy and stress free....

Seen these masks that have a photo of the part of your face printed on them? These may be the answer to your problem...
My company has invested in masks that are now part of our uniform. I am now stuck wearing what they tell me to wear.

Don’t feel bad. My $800 Apple phone doesn’t recognise me with a mask on neither. Heck, it doesn’t recognise me without my glasses. And stupidly, I don’t know how to set it up again without googling how to.

Weren’t these things supposed to make us smart?
They were supposed to... But did they? Don't feel bad, I had to google how to change the battery in the key fab to my car when it started to die.
