There is a time and place for everything.
There is a time and place for everything. However, this is neither the time nor the place for your hoochie momma shorts and tank top. Imagine my surprise when I went to collect the new employee for onboarding and there she stood, half naked, like she just stopped in to pick up a bottled water on the way to the beach. Really?! What the fuck are you thinking?! This is a WORK day. "Hi, are you [new employee]?" "Yes" "Ok, I'm going to start with this real quick, and then we are going to head back to do our intake questions and have our temp taken. This is technically a work day for you as you are being paid to come in and onboard with me. That said, you are dressed inappropriately for work today. I will go over the dress code policy with you in more detail in a bit, but tomorrow when you come to do orientation, I will expect you to be within dress code guidelines or I will need to send you home." Silence "When they called me on the phone they didn't say anything about how I should dress...." Um, you can't figure this one out on your own? All eyes were on us as I walked her to the back room to do her intake questions and get her temp taken. You could have heard a pin drop. Everyone was wondering whether or not I would send her home. Ultimately, I chose not to. The onboarding process takes a half hour to 45 minutes and I didn't really have time to dink around with her later. As I told Boss #2, apparently the time has come that I have to be specific over the phone that appropriate work attire is expected when you onboard and when you attend orientation. It was quite the topic of conversation for quite a while. It's pretty sad when I have to tell a new employee that rips and tears are not acceptable work attire, that clothing can not have fading in inappropriate areas, and that you must come to work wearing clothing that covers your fucking ass cheeks. We're working with the public here, people! On an unrelated topic.... I'm beginning to wonder if Nose Hairs has been reading this blog on the sly. His comment about the Advil today... Kind of has me wondering. |

Cuando pensaba que la vida se volvería difícil, aburrida, y dura, apareciste tú de repente para hacerme sentir esa felicidad y esa ilusión indescriptible. Me hiciste grande, me haces gigante mi amor.

Seeing everyone during the interview should have clued her in... Even then, she had an idea of what to expect for dress code. I don't feel sorry for these people, basic common sense tells you not to go to work dressed for the beach. Even the most relaxed retailers don't let you do that.

Ah casual Friday everyday isn't the dress code of the new or latest generation. Come as feel today so you are in your Safe Place Don't let anyone rock your boat or watch the phone come out if not already glued to the hand and posts to every social media platform crying about how they were treated. As they say Grow Up and Join Life, Play Time is Over, Everything is NOT given to you on a Silver plater. You should have said No Pay today, Go Home and when you are ready to an employee give me a call.

I got a job as a sales girl in a clothing store solely based on how I was dressed for the interview. No kidding! I was told by the store manager later on that she didn't care if I could sell anything, I could put together an outfit.

Had a Job where I would Check-In & Check-Out Employees, Visitors & Interviewees . Would see both Guys & Gals that were Overdressed or Underdressed . They are interviewing for a Position in a Huge Warehouse ! Knowing that ! It would make You wonder about the Guy that would show up in a 3 piece Suit or Gal in a Dress with dangling earrings, neck-less or neck-lessees ! Then there were the Guys & Gals that showed up in T- Shirts, Shorts & all manner of footwear !! I had a High percentage of guessing which ones that would come out with a, Letter of Hire, which had date & time too come back for 2 days of Orientation & those that came out Empty handed ! It does appear that the days of knowing , Proper Wear , for an Interview are things of the Past, as Generations of Age Progress !!!

Having been in retail, I am no longer surprised by the 18-30 crowd that has not clue 1 about dress codes and has no work ethic. I would rather show up over-dressed than poorly attired. At least I could say I was trying to cover two interviews on the same day

Sorry to put more on the teachers...but .....evidently lots is not being taught in the home.....a direct result of children having children. Interview skills, appropriate attire, table manners, manners in general, writing a check, balancing the books, interest rates compounding, applying for mortgages, patching/ sewing a hole or buttons, basic cooking and how to put out a cooking fire. Life skills that are needed in the real world should be a graduation requirement. Jus my dos centavos ~~

You kind of have to instill policy in some people right from the start. They will keep pushing that boundary if you do not. I see it all the time in areas at work with the weaker leaders who can't discipline their staff.

Hi secret_lade thanks for sharing another interesting post when I was much younger, I worked at Safeway from 10th grade thru College in different capacities. Dress code was part of the hiring process. If you agreed to work for them, then you agreed to a code of conduct and a dress code, as well as the business policies in place. But, there were always situations that popped up. have a great day! be safe Tracy Byrd - "Baby Put Your Clothes On" Baby put your clothes on, put on those brand new shoes I wanna take you downtown, I gotta little blues to lose I wanna see you dancing, swinging to a country song I love to show you off, baby put your clothes on We been sittin 'round here hardly doin' nothin' I think we need a little bit of belt-buckle rubbin' Where the lights are low and the music's fine Wouldn't hurt us none to have a little you and me time Baby put your clothes on, paint up those pretty lips Put on those cool blue jeans, the ones that ride low on your hips You know you make their heads turn Little girl you look so strong I love to show you off, baby put your clothes on

I would say if "nosehairs" is still sprouting nosehairs, he is NOT reading this blog. When we get a new employee at work I let them know they will be referred to as the "FNG" until they are replaced by the next "fucking new guy". I've hired so many people since COVID started, the FNG is only new for a few short days. I've added about 56 people to our staff.

Even after your informative talk with her about her attire and she had the nerve to whine about "nobody told me how to dress"? What the hell was wrong with her just saying "Yes ma'am" and being done with it? The more stories I hear about some of the young people out there these days, the more terrified I become over what the future will be like when common sense is extinct.
