An Open Message To . . .
An Open Message To . . . . . . any blogger(s) planning on leaving, or who has left, because of the words of other blogger(s). First, I want to make my position clear. We, Americans, Canadians (and others I believe too), have the Right of Free Speech. EVERYONE has the right to their opinions and the right to express them. Many, many people do not get that there are responsibilities, moral ones, which go along with that right. Part of being responsible, and respectable, is a person should also be respectful of others rights. That includes people who are negative by their nature and/or words. They will be on the inter/web/nets no matter what any of us say or do. Is it necessary? NO. Can you get away from it online? Given the nature of “social” media sites, probably not. However, one of the ideas behind this site is to bring people together in one form or another – not to split them apart. That said . . . to any blogger(s) planning on leaving, or has already left, because of the words of other blogger(s). Your leaving makes many people here unhappy. I have read some of your postings and replies to others, you come across as intelligent and respectable. The comments made by other blogger(s) reflect more on who they are than who you are. Their disrespect has lowered a bar you do not have to bend, or give attention, to. Negativity and disrespect are their weaknesses. If they cannot agree to disagree and move on they are neither important nor worthy of attention. The people here who understand your postings have a better idea and appreciation for who you are. You matter and those who appreciate you matter – the rest is just annoying noise. So what “should” you do? As you can see many people will miss you, so you lose something you have enjoyed and they lose the same. If you allow disrespectful types to influence what you do – they win. That is a loss for everyone online no matter what site(s) it is. I cannot tell you what to do. So I have only a personal request – stay and enjoy what you do. Ignore/block or do whatever you want with anyone who doesn’t appreciate what you post. Anyone’s questions, answers or comments (agreeing or disagreeing in a respectful way) are welcome. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. |

I will play the 'Devil's Advocate' on this one and offer an alternative opinion. Firstly, any and all bloggers are NOT here for your entertainment/amusement. They are here because they want to be. They want a venue where they can express themselves in ways that they might not otherwise be able to in another media/forum. When someone writes something in an 'Open' forum, they better be prepared to defend their position. While will agree with you that there needs to be a level of civility and decorum, sometimes this is not always the case. (and that's really too bad) I agree that their should/can be spirited discussion on some of the blogs, but we should and MUST keep it respectable. Those that say they are leaving..... 'Go'. There will be another new one to replace you tomorrow. No one is expendable. If you are thinking about it (and saying it) then your decision has already been made. Everything runs it's course. However, nobody should EVER be bullied off the site (or from blogging). As far as being missed...??? I can tell you from my personal perspective.... when I left the first time after over 1000 blogs, no one sent me a note saying they missed me or my blogs. If you go to the being of my 'new/current' blog, I don't recall anyone welcoming me back. I am not bitter, I am just stating a fact. It's like your favourite author dying, or your favourite television show/program getting cancelled. Something 'new' will come and fill the void. It always does. Great post and 'thank-you' for allowing us to vent.

I agree that the concept of Free Speech brings with it certain responsibilities. We should never use our words to intentionally hurt or belittle others....no matter what we may think privately. However sometimes the hurtful words of others, when added to other aspects of this place, bring us to the conclusion that we have reached our tipping point. I have reached my tipping point here and while I shall still read and leave the occasional comment to bloggers I know will not reply abusively.....sharing my thoughts here on my own blog is a thing of the past. ~~Anais Nin~~

"EVERYONE has the right to their opinions and the right to express them." We can have differences of opinion on a whole range of subjects and I will respect that. " Many, many people do not get that there are responsibilities, moral ones, which go along with that right." That is what some folks seem to forget or choose to ignore. In the many years I have been on this site I have run across folks that post misinformation .... disinformation .... falsehoods and out right lies. Are we suppose to ignore that out of "respect" for their right to free speech? AB I attempted to discuss it further when the accuser came on to Snickeroo’s post [post 3709572] about that situation. The accuser didn’t seem to like that I brought up her issue with another blogger nor did she get what I had said IMO. When my “flowery shirt” became part of her thing I got bored yaaaawwwwnnnn and left. More name-calling became her response. Feel free to read it and see what you think. Do we ignore that accusations (not just in this situation but in any) may also be misinformation, disinformation, falsehoods, or out right lies when they are not credible or verified? Is it respectful, or legitimate, to make accusations without credible or verified proof? When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Well said here! Bravo! Anyone who is leaving the site because of those idiots should not. The idiots win.. Don't you think we have all been picked on here by some of the bloggers and why most are leaving.. Some to the point of stalking us. Well I left for that very reason a few years back and I am back again. I will not let them win this time hugsssssssss V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

You’re right the choice is up to them and I acknowledged that. And yes, we are supposed to be adults but not all are, or are capable of being adult. I would love to have some return who have left too. But we probably can’t. It makes this place less better. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
