Pregnant ..Who Decides????
Pregnant ..Who Decides???? |

Its her body and her life to live as she see's fit.

I didn't vote, but here is my stance. Ultimately it is the girl's decision, however, there is a big "BUT" coming....I think she not only needs to involve the father, but also her parents and a doctor as well. At 13 she may be able to physically get pregnant, but her body may not be physically developed enough to be able to handle the pregnancy. In school there was a girl in my class in this situation. Strict Catholic family, and the girl and her parents decided to keep the baby against her doctor's recommendation . During the 7th month she developed major complications and was rushed to the hospital. Not only did she lose the baby, but to save her, they had to do an emergency hysterectomy, so now she is unable to have children. She has regretted her decision ever since.

ethically the family should have a big say, since she is only 13, but bottom line is no one can force her, so just have to live with her decision, whatever it may be

Many 13 yo girls throughout history have delivered babies. In the past the baby was raised as the mother's sister by the grandmother.

It's an interesting question, because there are varying levels of maturity in 13 years olds to make a decision of this magnitude (just as with so-called "adults"). In general, I think it has to be the family's decision, both as the legal guardians and because she has not reached legal majority (the "legal answer"). I also think the girl should participate as much as possible, because she is going to be affected for the rest of her life by the decision that is made. As for the morality aspects of pro-life and pro-choice, that's a whole other can of worms...

A lot of the opinions here were good points, some I agreed with and some I didn't. But, I'm pretty practical and realize that the family of the girl will ultimately bear the burden of responsibility here, based on here age (and yes, I understand what she may have to bear emotionally if she has an abortion). I voted that the family should make the decision, recognizing that the girl is a part of the family....

Only the pregnant teen, as long as someone is capable of making a decision then they then it is theirs to make. However in the wider context I also believe that "The guy who got her pregnant" should have a say if he cares about the unborn child or the mother. Not if it was a drunken fuck and he's long gone. Times have changes and an unwed pregnancy is not the taboo thing it used to be . One 7th grade girl in Jr high had that happen and she just "disappeared" never to be seen again ! Least not by me .. wasn't me btw . I voted for the girl as she will be affected the rest of her life no matter what is decided in the end . Truth be told the family will have major influence on what is decided as she is a minor , Their pro/life/choice views will be influencing what the girl is going to do more so than her thoughts as tensions are high and parental pressure can be high . The "father " should be taking ownership of his actions and support his share . And no mention on how she got that way in the first place weather she consented or not ? I have been there done that in the past but i was 18 she was 19 .. and it still was a mess at that age .
