I think this is one of those cases where the old way was far better. Going back wouldn't eliminate cheating or rigging the vote- all that shit happened in the good old days too. You probably have already read Jill Lepore"s article in the New Yorker about it. I'm sure I posted it on my Facebook page. We have never been a perfect democracy. But computers open up whole new universes of cheating for people who would try to steal the elections. No reputable security expert recommends computerized voting tallies. And, of course, the ballots are always there for backup if there is any question.

I probably should be but I'm a bit ambivalent about it. The media are hyping it as a "debacle"- I actually heard one reporter calling it exactly that. So, the Iowa Democratic party bought an app that failed. That's hardly newsworthy anymore, is it? If we've learned anything about elections it's that computers are insecure and unreliable. But Iowa DOES have a backup. We WILL get results, just not instantaneous results. They were unprepared for the computer app to fail. That's pretty stupid, but in the end what does the Iowa caucus represent? Iowa is 90% white and about 80% old. The Democratic party is 60% white and the country about 63% white. So! The caucus isn't meaningless but it's way over-hyped by a media that loves conflict and disaster. If a good sized fire developed in California or if Melania farted a rose the news media would drop Iowa like a hot rock. Thoughts from the Garden...

So true "he even didn't have buy our democracy." You could say he paid for it with his honor or his decency as he certainly lost those somewhere. But I don't believe he has ever had either of those not even when he was a grade school kid. No he stole the country with the help of the electoral college. A disfunctional, abused, left over feature that was intended to keep people like him out of the position it was used to put him into. It is entirely possible that it will be used to reinstall him there again come the November election. One thing is for certain the Republipigs are doing everything they can to keep him there as long as possible and to do as much damage to the country as they can while he is there. It goes back to William Walwyn, John Lilburne and the Levelers and Diggers of the English Civil War. We in the west never needed direction from Moscow in how to practice solidarity. Oddly enough, now that Russia is no longer communist, we're getting that direction in orders from Putin passed down to Trump! And the party being dictated to is none other than the Family Values, motherhood, babies and American flag party of superpatriots- the fucking Republicans. Your comment makes better sense now- thanks. I don't think Castro was half of what the US demonized him for but I can't idolize him either. I respect him for throwing out Batista and for standing up to the USA for so long...with Soviet backing, of course. Nixon doomed Castro with the Eisenhower administration from the start. I have the same problem with the Cuban Communists that I have with American communists of the thirties- they largely let the Comintern dictate policy for their party. Exactly what I meant. Castro saw his country and people being used and abused and so he chose to do something and his only option because of the corruption coming from the U.S., sadly, was to turn to Russia. The Socialist revolution going on here now however has nothing to do with the criminal in charge in Russia and is not the same movement as occurred in the past in communist block countries. You are right about the Republipigs colluding with Putin and claiming to be the super patriots.
