The truth is that if people stay inert and quiet nothing will ever change. I don't know what could be done to shake the stupefied and the ignorant, to stress the truth to the indifferent. Something has to be done though or our future is grim.

    Great post, my friend!
That is the truth, Pet. I don't know if we can change the ignorant. Ignorant people tend to cling to their beliefs in the face of all the facts- it's easier for the willfully ignorant than thinking. Theoretically, you can't fix stupid, but you can teach the uninformed. But we do need to rally around each other now, those of us in the opposition, irregardless of what they choose to think.

It looks like this W appointee values facts, rule of law, that sort of thing ...

I'm encouraged by rulings like this, but at the same time, the Trump administration is ignoring all the court decisions. We can have all the rulings in our favor, but they have to be enforced. Faced with this situation, we have to take to the streets. One thing that's happening is that visas have been revoked. So airlines in say, Qatar, will not allow persons with expired or revoked visas to board planes for the USA. They'll need new visas- to be issued by guess who- Trump's new administration. It seems doubtful to me that new visas will be issued. We MIGHT be able to keep the pressure on and intimidate them into complying with the law...but this is by no means a sure thing. This new government has no respect for law.

Thank you dear. I admit I don't know what to do- this is unprecedented. It's unexplored territory. We have to count on individual bureaucrats to do the right thing and defy the president and support the court orders. This will take all of us pulling together, and there's plenty of dissension and divisiveness- no one is certain of how best to oppose the onslaught of morally repugnant executive orders boiling out of the oval office. One thing I do know that we must do is continue to make noise. We can't get tired and we have to keep up the fight. And we need representatives who will stand their ground. We have to defy these racist pricks relentlessly. There is no other choice.

We get wall to wall coverage of this here as it's not just America that is affected by Trump's actions but the whole world. Our Taoiseach will soon be visiting for the annual presentation of the Shamrock on St.. Patrick's Day. There are some here who don't want him to go however he will go and will be watched carefully to make sure he gets our views across....but it is best to keep the door open.....you know " keep your friends close and your enemies closer" and all that.

You can feel fortunate that so far you haven't come to his attention. Not many come away unscathed from the experience. There are tools at our disposal to thwart him, but it's a work in progress- not many of us have ever been faced with quite this kind of challenge. Trump is hard for even his own people to control. Getting him in a box and keeping him there is gonna be a tall order.

All of this....most recently the Immigration fiasco....has hit me very hard. I was not prepared for how I felt and now I know it's akin to the stages of grief you go through when someone close to you has died. Maybe that's a bit melodramatic but it's the only way I can describe it. Depression, hopelessness, anxiety, fear for the future....and somewhere in there, I managed to participate in the Women's March. And that's what I will continue to do, any chance I get...participate in the resistance. My son reminded me that some resistance fighters in the past died before the battle was won because it took so long...and that we have to be ready to fight, even when/if it doesn't seem like we are gaining any headway. Be safe everyone.

I do know what you mean. There was a feeling of shock for many Americans that so many of their countrymen would make such a horrendous decision. Later on a feeling of numbness set in. A couple of things in particular have me optimistic, if guardedly so. The first is the attitude of young people, and the second is the response of women to the temporary ascension of Trump. Neither plan to take it lying down. I'm supposedly the wrong demographic- an old white guy. I'm in the group that's supposed to approve of the CheetoDip.

We also have a lot of support, and compassion, from people around the world. Voters weren't as energized in the last election as they might have been, but I suspect that won't be as much of a problem in the midterms or the following presidential race. Millions of Americans despise President Babyhands- many more than voted for him. Take heart and take hope from that, my friend.

I think there are too but instead of a grand showdown I think this will be a war of attrition, a slow eroding of the exuberance Trump's dummies felt when they had first succeeded in crashing the White House. And we'll wear them down. I think fascism and right wing wacko-ism will lose credibility if we keep the pressure on, but it'll be exhausting and there will be a hell of a lot of collateral damage. However this happens, it ain't going to be pretty.
