Oh jeez, this is so sad.

Very good too.

When i was 14 a young lad we all knew got knocked off his motorbike by a driver. He was lay in the road choking & non of us knew what to do. We didnt want to move him as we had always been told not to in case of back or neck injury & we had called an ambulance & the police.

As we waited he was getting very agitated & a woman (we didnt know her) said to take off his helmet....we didnt think she should but she went ahead & pulled off his helmet.

She slit his throat. The helmet had broken up inside & something sharp was digging into his neck & as she moved it it punctured him. He died pretty much instantly.

She was wrong for doing what she did but she was only trying to help.

Be careful on your bike, no matter how safe a driver you are it wont matter when a lunatic doesnt isee you.

Treat everyone on the road like a dickhead is my motto.

Not just motorcycles.

3 years ago when I was cycling a lot in preparation for some long triathlons, a friend of mine was killed while he rode his bicycle.

A guy in a minivan was driving to the hospital to visit his wife who had had some emergency surgery. He said he never saw my friend and he basically drove over him going 50 in a 35 zone. I guess he had reached down to the seat to get something and got distracted.

I had my share of incidents where people would drive up right behind you and honk. One guy tried to smack me with a magazine or something while I was going 20+ miles an hour on 1 inch wheels.

(thanks for visiting my blog and good luck and have fun getting going in blog land.)

When I was 18 I was hit head on by a drunk while on my cycle. 60 days in the hospital. Unfortunately these same idiots that ignore motor cycles, speed through neighborhoods with children, drive 50 in a school zone and pass stopped school buses and polices cars. The problem is that "we" just don't understand how important they are, and our lives, the lives of our children, police and emergency workers are secondary to them and their time. Let's face it Jerks are in season year round. Stay sharp, and stay safe.

Peace

Loved it. Makes you wonder when you ride. I'v had idiots sit at a stop sign & when you get close they pull out in front of you. Makes you wonder sometime if they really "didn't see you coming".

Just a few tips. 1. When approaching a car stopped at an intersection always believe they will pull out in front of you. Have your hands ready on the clutch and brake watch their wheels if they start to move stop. ( don't trust looking at them, they will look right at you and pull out, the wheels don't lie) 2. When driving in the city scan from the front tire to a block and a half in front of you. Use spaces in between houses to see what is coming down side streets. Watch for children and cars that have just pulled over. Check for heads in cars parked on the side of the street. They might pull out or open their doors. 3. On the highway scan 1/4 mile ahead, don't forget to scan the ditch. That's where the critters come from. 4. If you can afford it upgrade to HID lighting. The light is very bright and harder to miss. (being seen is the most important thing) 5. Always remember the only safe intersection is the one you just passed. 6. Keep your eyes moving if you see a possible hazard keep it in mind through your scan and check it more often don't lock on to it or something else where will get you. (hazards don't come alone they have friends too) 7. If you see a 51 year old man with short gray hair and beard on a full dressed blue BMW in Marion wave at me. Stay safe and keep the rubber side down.

I can not in anyway disagree with the need to be careful and observant for motorcycles. I am always careful and have never put a rider in jeopardy. BUT I have had many, MANY riders put themselves, myself and others in danger with their idiocy! I always wonder how many times they have complained about those driving cars and trucks!! Why do you worry about the speck in my eye and ignore the log in your eye?
