 Well , I would be startled too if some random person just grabbed my hand in a darkened movie theater.

If you go with a long time date , they should already know you

If it's a first movie date, ask them in advance. " I d like to hold your hand in the theater , is that ok ? "

Problem solved, case closed

Just remember grabbing a strangers hand ....anywhere.....could get you hurt !
